A Spanish tourist who went missing while trekking in eastern Nepal has been found dead, while the search for his missing companion continues.

The tourists, 35-year-old Erik Kasanovas and 30-year-old Merc Molas Junca, arrived in Nepal last Thursday. They disappeared three days later during a trek to Myagdi Ghorepani, passing through Birethanti in Kaski.

Kasanovas's body was discovered near a river, according to Ramesh Gurung, chairman of Ward No 9 in Annapurna Rural Municipality. Officials believe the couple might have been swept away by the river's current, a theory supported by their belongings being found nearby. The hot weather on the day they went missing likely contributed to the dangerous conditions.

The missing woman's belongings, including their trekking equipment and passports, were also located near the river.

A search operation is underway, with divers from the Armed Police Force working in the Mauja River to locate the missing woman. The search efforts face significant challenges, but authorities remain dedicated to finding her.
