Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has finished an important project that brings solar power to 22 of its buildings and facilities. The aim of this project is to use more renewable energy and help protect the environment by reducing pollution.
This step is part of RTA’s bigger plan to support a greener future for Dubai. It goes along with the city’s goals to cut harmful emissions through major strategies like the Zero-Emissions Strategy 2050, Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, and Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030.
Shaikha Ahmad Al Shaikh, who is the Director of Buildings and Facilities at RTA, explained that this solar project supports Dubai’s vision for sustainable development. She said the use of solar panels will help reduce pollution and cut down the carbon footprint. The new systems are expected to generate about 32 million kilowatt-hours of electricity every year, which will prevent about 10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide from entering the air annually.
She also shared that solar panels were added to 16 different RTA sites, including:
Al Shaikh said the RTA made sure all the solar systems followed the rules and safety standards set by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). The solar systems were designed carefully to suit each location and how the facility is used.

To keep track of how well the solar systems are working, RTA is using DEWA’s Shams Dubai Calculator. This tool allows them to see live data from each site, making sure the systems are working properly and efficiently.
This project shows RTA’s strong support for clean energy and a healthy future for everyone in Dubai.
