The Indian cricket team finds itself in its second World Cup final within eight months, this time against South Africa in Barbados for the T20 World Cup 2024 summit clash on Saturday. Despite entering the final with an unbeaten record, India's previous World Cup final appearance saw them lose to Australia in the 2023 Cricket World Cup last November. This final presents another opportunity for India to break their ICC title drought.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly humorously remarked that if India were to lose this final as well, Rohit Sharma might consider jumping into the Barbados ocean. Ganguly praised Rohit's leadership qualities, highlighting his journey from initial reluctance to captaincy to becoming a key figure in Indian cricket's progress.
"Rohit has led the team admirably, especially in reaching two consecutive World Cup finals undefeated. His captaincy has been commendable," Ganguly said, recalling his role during the transition when Virat Kohli stepped down from captaincy. Ganguly emphasized the challenges of winning IPL titles compared to international tournaments, acknowledging Rohit's achievement of five IPL titles.

"While winning an IPL involves winning more matches, the prestige lies in winning a World Cup," Ganguly clarified, hoping Rohit can secure India's victory this time. "I don't believe he will allow India to lose two World Cup finals in such a short span. Tomorrow is crucial, and I hope Rohit's brilliant batting and leadership continue."
India has been dominant throughout the tournament, and Ganguly expressed confidence in their abilities. "They deserve to win, and I wish them the best of luck. Winning such tournaments requires a bit of luck too," he concluded, emphasizing the importance of fortune in such high-stakes competitions.
