In Maharashtra, hundreds of protesters have converged at a railway station in Badlapur to demand justice following allegations of sexual assault involving two children. The incident reportedly occurred last week when the girls visited the toilet at their nursery school in Thane district.
A male employee of the school has been arrested in connection with the case. However, the children's parents have accused the authorities of delaying action. On Tuesday, the protest intensified as demonstrators blocked the tracks at Badlapur railway station, halting train services and further escalating the situation.
Reports indicate that some protesters clashed with police and threw stones, while videos on social media captured chaotic scenes at the railway platform. In response to the unrest, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the allegations thoroughly. He assured that stringent actions would be taken against those responsible and the school itself.

The school's management is under scrutiny after the parents highlighted several safety lapses, including non-functional CCTV cameras on the premises. Priyank Kanungo, chairperson of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, criticized the school for its "insensitive" handling of the situation and accused it of attempting to "suppress the case." He also claimed that the local police station failed to promptly file an FIR.
In response to the outcry, the school has suspended the principal, a class teacher, and a female employee involved in the incident. The school has not yet addressed the broader allegations publicly, and the police have yet to respond to the criticisms.
This protest is part of a broader wave of public anger in India, following the recent rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor in West Bengal. Her body was discovered earlier this month in a seminar room at a state-run hospital in Kolkata where she worked.
