PM Modi and President Zelenskyy Honor Children’s Memory in Kyiv Before Talks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made history with his visit to Ukraine, the first by an Indian prime minister since the country gained independence in 1991. Modi arrived in Kyiv early Friday and was warmly welcomed by the Indian diaspora at the station. He traveled from Poland on the 'Rail Force One' train.

Upon arrival, Modi met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with a friendly embrace. The leaders then honored the memory of children affected by the conflict at the Martyrologist Exposition in Kyiv, ahead of their scheduled bilateral discussions.

Modi shared his experience on X (formerly Twitter), noting the warm reception from the Indian community. His visit follows a recent trip to Moscow, which drew criticism from the US and its Western allies. Despite this, India has maintained its call for peaceful dialogue since the onset of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine in 2022.

The visit to Ukraine is part of a series of significant diplomatic trips, including Modi’s recent trip to Poland, marking the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Poland in 45 years. Modi expressed his eagerness to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Zelenskyy and discuss peaceful resolutions to the ongoing conflict.
