Northwest Minnesota Mall Locked Down After Shooting; 1 Arrested

On the afternoon of September 9, 2024, the Blaine Police Department received multiple 911 emergency calls reporting gunfire near Northtown Mall in Blaine, Minnesota. The initial call came around 3:30 p.m. local time, prompting an immediate response from local law enforcement.

Upon receiving the reports, a significant police presence was established at the scene. Officers from Blaine, Anoka County deputies, and the Minnesota State Patrol were dispatched to address the situation. They quickly locked down the mall and began to secure the area, focusing their efforts on ensuring public safety.

The gunfire was reported to have occurred outside the mall, in the parking area. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. Authorities confirmed that there was no immediate threat to mall employees, shoppers, or local residents.

A store manager at the mall described the situation as unprecedented in their experience, stating, “This is something that's never happened to us before. I've been in this mall for six-and-a-half years, or at least an employee here, and never had anything like this happen before.”

By 5 p.m., police had cleared the scene, but the mall remained on lockdown as a precautionary measure. During the operation, law enforcement arrested an individual near the mall who was found in possession of a firearm. However, details regarding the motive behind the shooting and the identity of the suspect have not yet been disclosed. Fox9 reported that the investigation is ongoing, and further updates are awaited as authorities continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.
