Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to travel to Washington, DC, to meet with US President Donald Trump. The meeting will cover several important topics, including trade tariffs, the situation in Gaza, Iran's nuclear program, and the relationship between Israel and Turkey.
Netanyahu’s office announced that the discussions will focus on:
Israel-Turkey Relations: Talking about how Israel and Turkey can improve their connection.
The Iranian Threat: Discussing Iran’s nuclear program and how it affects the region.
Gaza War: Addressing the ongoing conflict in Gaza and efforts to reach a new ceasefire deal.
Trade Tariffs: Talking about the tariffs (taxes on goods) Israel faces under Trump’s “reciprocal tariffs,” which are currently at 17%. Israel has recently decided to cancel some of these tariffs on US goods.
International Criminal Court (ICC): Discussing the fight against the ICC, which has issued an arrest warrant against Netanyahu for alleged war crimes in Gaza. However, Netanyahu is not facing any legal issues in the US, as the country is not a member of the ICC.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at the White House on Monday. This visit comes after Netanyahu had a phone call with Trump on Thursday, where they talked about tariffs and other matters.

Before visiting the US, Netanyahu was in Hungary, marking his first trip to Europe since 2023. He visited Hungary despite the ICC’s arrest warrant against him. Interestingly, Hungary recently left the ICC, which allowed Netanyahu to visit without legal problems.
During his visit to the US, Netanyahu will also discuss efforts to bring back Israeli captives held by Palestinian groups in Gaza. Israel had resumed attacks on Gaza last month after a brief ceasefire with Hamas, a Palestinian group.
Trump has been pushing Iran to join talks for a new agreement about its nuclear program. Iran has shown willingness to hold indirect talks, but Western countries, including the US, have long accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons. Iran strongly denies these claims, stating its nuclear activities are for peaceful purposes only.
This meeting between Netanyahu and Trump is important as it will shape the future of Israel’s relations with the US, the situation in Gaza, and the ongoing tensions with Iran.
