Paris' renowned Tour d'Argent, famously associated with the film Ratatouille, has made headlines as it involves the police in a perplexing situation. The management of this historic 442-year-old restaurant has reported a significant loss—vintage wine bottles valued at $1.6 million have mysteriously disappeared from its extensive cellars.
According to BBC reports, the missing collection comprises 83 bottles, including prestigious Bordeaux like Romanee Conti, a wine globally recognized for its exorbitant prices. Romanee Conti is considered one of the most expensive wines globally, with a single 2011 bottle fetching around $16,000, and a 1999 vintage commanding over $30,000. Notably, in 2018, a 1945 Romanee Conti set a record as the most expensive wine ever sold, reaching approximately $521,749.90.
People Magazine underscores the extraordinary value of these wines, emphasizing the rarity and demand for Romanee Conti. It details the escalating prices of different vintages, portraying the immense worth of the stolen collection.
Tour d'Argent, recognized for its encyclopedia-like wine list and extensive cellars stretching along the Seine River, houses an astounding 300,000 bottles. Despite the ongoing investigation by the police, no evidence of a robbery has been uncovered, as reported by BBC. The mysterious disappearance of these high-value wines from such an iconic establishment adds an intriguing layer to the story, leaving authorities and enthusiasts alike searching for answers.
