Abu Dhabi Airports, which runs the five main airports in the emirate, shared its results for 2024, showing great growth and confirming its place as a top airport hub in the world. The company helped 29.4 million passengers travel through its airports, which is a 28.1% increase compared to 22.9 million passengers in 2023. This growth came from expanding its network, forming new partnerships, and working hard to give passengers the best experience.

Zayed International Airport (AUH) was key to this growth. It connected travelers to over 125 destinations with 29 new routes added in 2024. Eight new airlines joined the airport, including British Airways, Air Astana, Aegean Airlines, US Bangla Airlines, Akasa Air, Hainan Airlines, Flynas, and Turkmenistan Airlines. This led to a 10% increase in the number of aircraft flying, from 226,362 flights in 2023 to 249,747 flights in 2024. More travelers from popular countries like the UK, India, Qatar, and Egypt are now using the airport.
Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports, said, "2024 was a great year for Abu Dhabi Airports. We broke records with passenger numbers, saw more cargo come through, and finished important building projects. These successes show our commitment to offering great travel experiences and keeping Abu Dhabi a top place for aviation. We thank our partners for their support, and this strong year sets us up for even more success."
Abu Dhabi Airports also saw a big rise in cargo. In 2024, the airport handled 678,990 tonnes of goods, a 21% increase from 560,434 tonnes in 2023. This growth shows Abu Dhabi is becoming a big center for international trade and business.
Abu Dhabi Airports kept improving the passenger experience in 2024. Some important projects were finishing the Northern Runway Rehab Project, making sure the airport stays strong, and opening a new US Customs and Border Protection (US CBP) facility, which is the only one like it in the Middle East and Asia. The airport also added more ways for passengers to travel faster and easier, like biometric touchpoints, self-service baggage drop, and e-gates.
The airport also worked on making travel easier for everyone. They received the ACI Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation, created a Sensory Space, started the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Programme, and added a Pet Relief Area. These efforts make the airport more welcoming for all passengers.
In 2024, the Abu Dhabi Airports Free Zone (ADAFZ) grew a lot, supporting the emirate’s economic development. The Free Zone started building a new AED 85 million warehousing facility in Al Falah District, working with MSM Logistic. ADAFZ also signed a deal with Radius Group to build AED 320 million worth of new warehouses in the same district. These projects help make Abu Dhabi a better place for business and trade.
Zayed International Airport won a top award, being named the World’s Most Beautiful Airport at the Prix Versailles Architecture and Design Award. The airport also added 28 new retail shops, bringing the total to 157. These shops were also recognized with the Best New Duty-Free Shop award and a high-ranking mention for Best Airport for Retail.
In addition, Abu Dhabi Airports opened AUHotel, a 138-room hotel right in Zayed International Airport, offering comfortable rooms for travelers.
Abu Dhabi Airports also focused on its workers by developing programs to train and grow local talent. In 2024, 44.3% of its employees were UAE Nationals. The Fresh Graduates and Internship Programs gave UAE Nationals the chance to learn and grow, helping the country’s aviation industry.
Thanks to all these successes, Abu Dhabi Airports is set for even more growth in the future, helping keep Abu Dhabi connected to the rest of the world.
