M42 is planning to build a special cancer treatment centre at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. This new place will use a new kind of treatment called heavy ion therapy. It is one of the most powerful and careful ways to treat cancer. This centre will be the first of its kind in the Middle East.
The news was shared during Abu Dhabi Global Health Week 2025. This event is run by the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi. The goal is to make health and care better for people in the future.

Right now, there is no heavy ion therapy centre close to the UAE. The nearest one is more than five hours away by plane. When this new place is ready, people from the UAE and nearby countries won’t have to travel far for this special care. It will help many people get better and faster treatment.
Building work for the centre will begin in 2026. It will be built next to the Fatima bint Mubarak Cancer Center, which already helps many cancer patients. The new centre will have two rooms for treatment. One room will have a big moving machine, and the other room will have a straight beam to treat the patient. These machines are very smart and use strong magnets and fast tools to work well.
M42 is working with a Japanese company called Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions. Toshiba will help bring the latest tools and machines for the treatment. Both companies signed a deal to work together on this big project.
Hasan Jasem Al Nowais, the head of M42 and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, said this new centre will help fill an important need. He said many people with cancer will now have more hope. The new treatment is very correct and strong, and it can help people who are not getting better with normal care.
Tsutomu Takeuchi from Toshiba said he is happy to work with M42. He said this new treatment works faster and people need fewer visits to the hospital. It will make life easier for people with cancer.
Dr Georges-Pascal Haber, the head of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, said the hospital always tries to bring the best care to patients. He said this new therapy will help people from all over the world who have hard-to-treat cancers.
Heavy ion therapy is better than the older ways of using light (called photons) to treat cancer. It sends a strong and deep beam straight to the cancer, but does not hurt the good parts of the body. Some people with early lung cancer can be treated in just one day. It also works well for big tumours or cancers that don’t respond to other treatments. It lowers the chance of getting cancer again in the future.
There are only 15 places in the world that give this treatment. This new centre in Abu Dhabi will put the UAE on the world map for cancer care. It will help many people in the country and the region get top-level treatment without flying far away.
