At the World Early Childhood Development (WED) Forum held in Abu Dhabi, Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, highlighted the substantial progress the UAE has made in promoting children’s rights and welfare. She declared the UAE as a global leader in child protection during her keynote address at the forum, which took place from October 30 to 31.

Sheikha Latifa emphasized the country’s proactive initiatives aimed at nurturing future generations and establishing a legislative model that enhances the role of children within society. The WED Forum was organized under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and is part of the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Week, which aims to promote collaboration and knowledge exchange in the realm of early childhood development. The forum focuses on creating tangible outcomes and innovative solutions to advance early childhood development on both local and global scales.

In her address, Sheikha Latifa underscored the urgent need for specialized research and data collection, particularly within the Arab region. She pointed out the forum’s significance in advancing early childhood education and well-being, highlighting three strategic pillars: Intentional Parenting, Culture and Identity, and Sustainable Family-Friendly Cities. According to her, concentrating on these pillars is essential for fostering future generations that are deeply connected to their identity and committed to authentic values.

Furthermore, Sheikha Latifa discussed the pivotal influence of early childhood education on children’s intellectual and emotional development. She stressed the necessity for knowledge-driven innovation in this area, calling for the creation of educational and media content that engages the curiosity of young minds. “This is a time to reflect on what we offer our children through education, literature, and the arts,” she stated. “We need to inspire them with creativity and purpose, especially in a world that is increasingly open to diverse cultures.”

She concluded her remarks by urging society, organizations, and institutions to collaborate in producing educational resources and studies centered around parenting and childhood. Sheikha Latifa highlighted the importance of investing in children to shape their identities and foster a sense of belonging, which is essential for nurturing a strong Arab family rooted in authenticity and creativity.

Moreover, Sheikha Latifa emphasized the critical role of language in healthy development, noting that Arabic serves as the cornerstone of identity, history, and heritage. Strengthening children’s ties to the Arabic language is crucial not only for their linguistic skills but also for embedding them more deeply in their national identity and broadening their understanding of the world.

The WED Forum featured a robust agenda comprising over 30 interactive sessions, panel discussions, advanced training, and workshops. It hosted 50 speakers from various sectors, including prominent figures such as Her Excellency Sheikha Hala Bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, CEO of the Nuwah Foundation; Sheikh Dr. Majid Sultan Al Qassimi, Founder of Soma Mater; and Her Excellency Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Chair of the WED Initiative. The forum provided a platform for enriching discussions aimed at fostering effective strategies for early childhood development.
