His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, has reiterated the UAE's commitment to preserving its national heritage. He emphasized that the leadership is dedicated to launching and implementing initiatives that enhance the protection of the nation's cultural legacy.
This commitment was prominently displayed during Sheikh Khaled's recent visit to the Saadiyat Cultural District, where he received an update on the final stages of construction for several major museums and cultural institutions, all scheduled for completion by the end of 2025. His Highness toured the sites of the Zayed National Museum, the Natural History Museum – Abu Dhabi, and the innovative digital arts museum, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi.

During his visit, Sheikh Khaled highlighted how the Saadiyat Cultural District embodies the UAE's dedication to documenting the nation's rich history and promoting dialogue between diverse cultures and civilizations. The museums and institutions within the district aim to preserve the cultural legacy established by the late founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, while instilling the values of cultural dialogue in current and future generations. He further noted the leadership’s commitment to establishing Abu Dhabi as a global center for culture and creativity.
As of September 2024, the Saadiyat Cultural District has achieved an impressive 83 percent completion rate, demonstrating significant progress toward the vision of becoming one of the world’s premier concentrations of cultural institutions.
During his tour, Sheikh Khaled visited the Zayed National Museum, which is dedicated to celebrating the UAE's rich history and culture. The museum's iconic design, inspired by the shape of falcon feathers, has been completed, and the interior designs are in the final stages. He admired the central atrium, which showcases the architectural beauty of the premises, and was briefed on the galleries that will narrate the UAE's storied past.
Sheikh Khaled also met with engineering teams and UAE nationals involved in the cultural projects within the district. He was informed about the advanced engineering techniques utilized, particularly in the Natural History Museum, which promises visitors a journey spanning 13.8 billion years through the history of the universe and humanity. The museum's galleries are designed to provide unparalleled insights into significant moments in natural history and the evolution of our planet.
Additionally, Sheikh Khaled reviewed the progress of teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, a 17,000-square-meter facility where art and technology converge. This immersive digital arts space aims to inspire creativity through installations that continuously evolve based on environmental phenomena. He toured the exterior structure, designed to host state-of-the-art digital experiences, and explored key areas where preparations are underway for installations intended to captivate visitors.
Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, remarked, “The Saadiyat Cultural District hosts one of the most significant concentrations of cultural institutions that narrate the stories of the UAE, the world, and the connections that have fostered creativity and innovation throughout history. Through their iconic architecture, collections, and innovative programming, the Saadiyat museums promote artistic expression and foster creativity. The district serves as a center for cultural dialogue and exchange, attracting visitors from local, regional, and international backgrounds. Through these institutions, we aspire to create a lasting and sustainable impact on the global cultural landscape.”
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi has collaborated with Miral, a leading developer of immersive destinations and experiences in Abu Dhabi, to bring the Natural History Museum and teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi to life. These projects offer artistic spaces where art intersects with technology to ignite curiosity, imagination, and creativity, developed by teamLab from Tokyo, Japan.
Over the past 15 years, the Saadiyat Cultural District has emerged as a beacon of cultural excellence, reflecting the UAE’s commitment to preserving its national identity and cultural heritage. The legacy established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan continues to foster communication with diverse peoples and civilizations, reinforcing Abu Dhabi's and the UAE's status as a global cultural hub since the opening of the Al Ain Museum in 1971 and the establishment of the Cultural Foundation in 1981
