The image-making tool recently added to ChatGPT has taken the internet by storm, especially thanks to a viral trend where people are turning their real photos into beautiful, cartoon-like images inspired by the famous Japanese animation studio, Studio Ghibli. This feature, which became available on March 25, has quickly become one of the most loved updates to ChatGPT since it was first introduced back in 2022.

According to Brad Lightcap, who is the Chief Operating Officer at OpenAI, over 130 million users have already created more than 700 million images using this new tool in just a short time. That’s an astonishing figure, showing just how widely this feature has been embraced.
One of the most interesting developments is the rapid rise of India as one of ChatGPT's fastest-growing markets. Lightcap acknowledged this in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on March 3, thanking users for their patience and explaining that the team is working day and night to support the growing demand.
This recognition came shortly after OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, also praised the fast pace at which people in India are adopting artificial intelligence tools. The excitement around the image generator seems to have played a key role in this growth.
The tool’s ability to transform everyday photographs into detailed, animated-style artwork has caught the attention of people all over the world. But the popularity hasn’t come without its problems. The massive number of new users has put heavy pressure on OpenAI’s technical systems.
Altman mentioned recently that the sudden rise in use is putting stress on the company’s GPU (graphics processing unit) resources. In fact, he jokingly said the tool was "melting" their GPUs because of how much it was being used. He also warned that users might face some slowdowns or service delays while the team works on expanding their systems to handle the high demand.
In short, ChatGPT’s new image-generation feature has not only captured global attention but has also shown how quickly users—especially from countries like India—are turning to creative and powerful AI tools. While there may be some bumps along the way due to overwhelming traffic, OpenAI seems committed to improving its systems to serve everyone better.
