Dubai Woman Conquers Highest Peaks, Breaks Barriers

Mountaineer and Dubai resident Naila Kiani achieved a remarkable milestone by scaling Makalu, the world's fifth highest peak at 8,485 meters, on Sunday. With this accomplishment, she became the first Pakistani woman to conquer 11 of the world’s 14 highest mountains, all of which are over 8,000 meters in height.

Despite residing in Dubai for nine years, Kiani has spent the last three years dedicated to mountaineering. She found the city to be an ideal environment with ample resources to pursue her passion for climbing the world's highest peaks.

Kiani's latest feat was a challenging endeavor. The final summit push of Makalu occurred throughout Saturday night, culminating in her reaching the top on Sunday morning. The descent was equally arduous, with the team navigating through a snowstorm.

Unfortunately, adverse weather conditions caused the team to lose their way during the descent, leading to difficulty in locating 'camp 3,' situated at around 7,500 meters. After hours of uncertainty, they finally located the camp and sought refuge there around 7 pm Nepal time.

Kiani holds a remarkable record as the fastest-ever Pakistani, in both the men’s and women’s categories, to climb 11 of the 14 highest 8,000-meter peaks, accomplishing this feat in just under three years.

In recognition of her extraordinary achievements, Kiani was honored with the Sitara-i-Imtiaz, the highest civilian honor bestowed upon any female athlete in Pakistan.

Her mountaineering prowess gained global attention in 2023 when she scaled seven out of 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks within six months, a feat achieved by only ten mountaineers worldwide in the same year.

Aside from mountaineering, Kiani is also a competitive boxer, showcasing her versatility and determination in various arenas of sports and adventure.
