Actor Dhanush and filmmaker Aishwarya Rajinikanth have officially ended their marriage. The Chennai Family Court granted their divorce earlier this week. The divorce was finalized on November 27, after the couple appeared before the judge earlier this month to confirm that they both agreed to separate.

The couple announced their separation in early 2022, explaining that they had differences they could not resolve after 18 years of marriage. Dhanush and Aishwarya, who got married in a grand ceremony in Chennai in 2004, issued a statement at the time of their separation. In the statement, they said:

“After 18 years together as friends, a couple, and parents, we have decided to part ways to focus on our personal growth. We request privacy during this time and will continue supporting each other as parents to our sons, Yatra and Lingaa.”

Even though they are no longer married, Dhanush and Aishwarya remain dedicated to their children’s well-being. They have promised to work together as co-parents to give Yatra and Lingaa a good and stable future.

Dhanush is also dealing with a legal matter. He has filed a case in the Madras High Court against actress Nayanthara and her husband, director Vignesh Shivan. The issue is about the use of footage from the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan without permission. The footage appeared in the trailer for the Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale. Dhanush is seeking damages of Rs 100 million for the unauthorized use of this footage.
