The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill, 2025 have officially become laws. This happened after President Droupadi Murmu gave her approval to both bills on April 5, 2025. The government announced this in a notification, saying the laws are now official.
These bills were passed by both the Lok Sabha (the lower house of Parliament) and the Rajya Sabha (the upper house) after long hours of debate. The Lok Sabha cleared the bills early on Thursday morning, and the Rajya Sabha passed them the next day after a 17-hour discussion. The debates were very intense, with strong arguments from both sides.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill was discussed for hours because it was a very controversial topic. Some members of Parliament, like Congress MP Mohammad Jawed and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, have already challenged the bill in the Supreme Court, saying it goes against the Constitution.
After the bill was passed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called it a "watershed moment". He said that the new laws will help people who have been ignored and denied opportunities for a long time. The Prime Minister also thanked the members of Parliament and others who shared their ideas during the process of making the bill.
During the debates, there was a lot of disagreement between the government and the opposition. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, who presented the bill in both houses, said that the bill does not violate anyone’s rights. However, the opposition argued that the bill is unconstitutional and against the Muslim community.
In the end, both bills were passed with strong support from the government, but they also face challenges in the Supreme Court. The country will now have to wait and see how these laws will affect people in the future.lok
