As Cyclone Michaung advances toward the coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, both states are on high alert, preparing for the imminent storm's impact. Over the last 24 hours, heavy rains and intense thunderstorms have battered these regions, setting the stage for the cyclone's arrival.

Tragically, Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu, has reported five casualties in rain-related incidents. Among these incidents are two fatalities due to electrocution and one person killed by a falling tree in the upscale Besant Nagar area, according to local police.

The situation in Chennai has been exacerbated by flooding, leading to the sweeping away of cars in the city streets. In response to the adverse weather conditions, Chennai's airport, one of the busiest in India, has temporarily suspended operations until Tuesday morning.

As the cyclone intensifies, the potential threats include the uprooting of small and medium-sized trees, extensive damage to hutments and mud houses, and partial damage to telephone and electric poles. Authorities are urging residents to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines to mitigate the risks associated with the approaching storm.
