Cristiana Barsony-Arcidiacono, a 49-year-old Hungarian-Italian businesswoman, has emerged in the spotlight following the tragic explosion of pagers in Beirut that resulted in 12 fatalities and injured over 2,000 people. She is the CEO of BAC Consulting, a Hungary-based firm to the design of these pagers, which were licensed from the Taiwanese manufacturer Gold Apollo. Barsony-Arcidiacono has publicly denied any direct involvement in the production of the devices, stating, “I am just the intermediate. I think you got it wrong.”

Born near the port city of Catania in Sicily, Italy, Barsony-Arcidiacono was described by her schoolmates as a reserved child. She holds a PhD in particle physics from University College London, where her dissertation focused on the positron, a sub-atomic particle. Throughout her career, she has engaged in various sectors, including humanitarian work in Africa. However, many of her claimed senior positions have been discredited, with investigations revealing discrepancies in her resume.
Former colleagues have described Barsony-Arcidiacono as intelligent but erratic. She reportedly speaks up to seven languages and has held numerous short-term roles across multiple industries and continents. Notably, her contract in Tunisia was terminated early due to allegations of bullying management.
Following the pager explosions, Barsony-Arcidiacono's mother disclosed that her daughter is currently under the protection of Hungarian secret services due to threats she has received, adding an air of mystery to her already complex story. As investigations continue, the focus remains on her involvement and the circumstances surrounding the deadly explosions.
