Irish MMA fighter Conor McGregor, who was earlier found guilty of sexual assault, met with Donald Trump during a Saint Patrick’s Day visit to the White House on Monday. During the visit, McGregor spoke against illegal immigration in his home country, Ireland.

While standing in the White House briefing room next to Trump’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, McGregor said that Ireland’s culture is in danger because of too many immigrants. Dressed in a green suit for Saint Patrick’s Day, McGregor said, “Ireland is close to losing its Irishness.” He added that “illegal immigration is destroying the country.”

After his speech, Trump welcomed McGregor to the Oval Office, where they took photos. In one picture, McGregor had his arm around Trump’s shoulder, while Trump sat at his desk. In another photo, McGregor posed with tech billionaire Elon Musk, who supports Trump.

Musk has recently supported anti-immigration parties in Europe. He also backed McGregor when the fighter once talked about running for president in Ireland.

During the meeting, McGregor praised Trump, saying, “Your hard work is inspiring.” Trump replied, “Yours is too, you’re amazing.”

Earlier, McGregor said he wanted to hear Trump’s views on immigration, which is a key topic in Trump’s 2024 campaign. Trump has promised to deport illegal immigrants if he wins.

Press secretary Karoline Leavitt praised McGregor’s visit, calling him the “perfect guest” for Saint Patrick’s Day.

However, McGregor’s comments upset people in Ireland. Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin, who met Trump at the White House last week, disagreed with McGregor.

On X (formerly Twitter), Martin wrote, “Conor McGregor’s words are wrong and do not reflect the spirit of Saint Patrick’s Day or the views of the Irish people.”

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), McGregor’s sport, is famous for its tough fighting style, mixing different combat skills. It has become popular in America, where Trump has links with UFC fighters. Many male voters, who watch UFC, support Trump.

Nicknamed “The Notorious,” McGregor is one of the biggest UFC stars, famous for his bold nature and fierce attitude. However, he has also faced legal troubles.

In November 2024, an Irish court found McGregor guilty of sexual assault and ordered him to pay damages to a woman. She said McGregor raped and beat her in a Dublin hotel in 2018. McGregor denied it, saying the sex was consensual.

In January 2025, McGregor faced another sexual assault case in the United States. The case was from an incident at an NBA game in Miami in 2023, where he was accused of sexually assaulting a woman.

Meanwhile, Trump is also facing legal issues. In 2023, a New York jury found him guilty of sexually abusing writer E. Jean Carroll. Trump was ordered to pay $5 million in damages. He denied the claims and appealed the verdict, but in December 2024, the court confirmed the ruling.
