OpenAI has announced that all users can now use the internet search feature in ChatGPT. This makes OpenAI a strong competitor to Google. Before this, only paying users could use the search feature, but now it is free for everyone.

This new feature allows ChatGPT to find real-time answers from the internet and share links to reliable sources. OpenAI said that this will make it easier for users to find quick and up-to-date information without using a traditional search engine.
Kevin Weil, a leader at OpenAI, shared the news in a YouTube video. He said, "The search feature is now available for all users who are logged into ChatGPT. This will work everywhere that ChatGPT is used, no matter the device or place." OpenAI said millions of users will get this feature starting today.
The search feature is part of the main ChatGPT system, so users can turn it on by default or use a search button when they want to search the internet. Before this feature, ChatGPT only used stored information and did not search for the latest web results. Now it can find information from the internet in real time.
The new design looks similar to Google’s search results but without advertisements. It is also similar to a tool called Perplexity, which gives answers by linking to its sources. Adam Fry, a leader on the ChatGPT Search team, said, "We are making ChatGPT better by giving users the most up-to-date information directly from the web."
OpenAI has chosen to add this search feature directly into the main ChatGPT system instead of creating a new product. This is similar to how Microsoft and Google use AI tools and web search together.
OpenAI is linked with Microsoft, which is a major investor in the company. Microsoft is also working to make its search engine, Bing, compete with Google. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has led the company to become one of the most valuable names in technology. OpenAI is now valued at $157 billion, with money from Microsoft, SoftBank, and Nvidia.
Adding this feature will attract many new users to ChatGPT, but it will cost OpenAI a lot of money because live web search uses powerful computers and high costs.
This move will challenge Google’s position as the top search engine and could change how users search for information in the future. OpenAI hopes this will make ChatGPT even more helpful to millions of people worldwide.
