OpenAI announced on Thursday that its AI chatbot, ChatGPT, has surpassed 200 million weekly active users, a notable increase from the 100 million reported last fall. Launched in 2022, ChatGPT has rapidly gained traction due to its ability to generate human-like responses based on user prompts.

In addition to the impressive user growth, OpenAI revealed that 92% of Fortune 500 companies are now using its products. This includes a significant uptick in the adoption of its automated Application Programming Interface (API), which facilitates communication between software programs. Since the introduction of the ChatGPT-4o mini in July, the use of this API has doubled. The GPT-4o mini is designed to be a cost-effective and less energy-intensive AI model, aimed at expanding OpenAI's customer base.

The success of ChatGPT has greatly contributed to the rising valuation of the San Francisco-based company. In other developments, media reports suggest that Apple and Nvidia are in negotiations to invest in OpenAI, potentially valuing the company at over $100 billion. Microsoft, a major backer of OpenAI, is also anticipated to participate in this new fundraising round.
