CBI Identifies 30 Suspects in Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder, Probing Larger Conspiracy

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has identified at least 30 suspects in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. This development follows a transfer of the investigation from the Kolkata Police to the CBI by the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday.

The CBI revealed on Friday that the names of these suspects were provided by the victim’s family. The probe has expanded to include potential larger conspiracies, suggesting that the crime might have been part of a broader scheme to "suppress something."

Over the past three days, the CBI has questioned more than 30 individuals and is pursuing new leads. The agency has prioritized the interrogation of potential suspects, including interns and physicians from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where the victim's semi-nude body was discovered last week.

The victim’s parents have expressed suspicions that several colleagues from the hospital might be involved in the crime. The CBI officer handling the case noted, "The parents suspect the involvement of multiple persons in the assault and murder of their daughter and have provided names of interns and doctors who worked with her."

In addition to questioning hospital staff, the CBI has summoned former hospital principal Sandip Ghosh for interrogation. Ghosh, who resigned shortly after the discovery of the body, had raised concerns about potential threats to his safety. His lawyer has requested protection from the Calcutta High Court, which has advised him to seek further action through a single bench.

The investigation continues as the CBI seeks to uncover more details and connections related to this grave incident.
