The match saw Brazil's manager, Dorival Jr., who succeeded Tite after Brazil's quarter-final exit at the 2022 World Cup, looking despondent on the sidelines. His side was thoroughly outplayed, and Brazil was fortunate not to lose by a larger margin. The only goal of the game came in the 20th minute when Paraguay's Diego Gomez unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the box. The ball hit the post before finding the net, leaving Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson with no chance.

Throughout the first half, Brazil failed to register a single shot on target. They only managed three shots on target throughout the match, all of which came from a frustrated Vinicius Jr., who has not been able to replicate his club form for Real Madrid on the international stage.

Brazil, the five-time World Cup champions, currently sit in fifth place in the qualifying table with 10 points, just ahead of Venezuela on goal difference. The top six teams in the standings will secure a direct spot in the World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, while the seventh-place team will have to navigate additional rounds of qualifiers.
