Post by: Elena Malik

Mumbai police are facing scrutiny after the custodial death of Anuj Thapan, a key suspect in the shooting incident outside actor Salman Khan's residence. Thapan, hailing from Punjab, was apprehended for allegedly supplying firearms to the assailants involved in the shooting on April 14. The Crime Investigation Department (CID) has taken charge of investigating the circumstances surrounding Thapan's demise.

Thapan, along with five others, was held in custody near the Mumbai Police headquarters. On the morning of the incident, he was found hanging in the lock-up's restroom. Despite immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities have registered a case of accidental death and launched an inquiry into potential lapses by police personnel.

Concerns about Thapan's well-being had reportedly surfaced earlier, with fellow inmates indicating his apprehension about the case and fear of being denied bail. Thapan's family vehemently contests the suicide narrative, alleging foul play and demanding a thorough investigation into his death.

Thapan and Sonu Kumar Bishnoi, both from Punjab's Fazilka, were apprehended by the Mumbai Police crime branch for their alleged involvement in the weapon supply. They purportedly provided firearms to Sagar Pal and Vicky Gupta, the primary suspects in the shooting at Salman Khan's residence.

Legal representatives of Thapan's family have raised suspicions about the circumstances leading to his death, highlighting previous concerns expressed by the accused regarding their safety. The incident has raised significant questions about police conduct and accountability.

The shooting incident outside Salman Khan's home involves Lawrence Bishnoi, a notorious gangster, and his brother Anmol Bishnoi, who had previously claimed responsibility. The accused face charges under the Indian Penal Code and the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.
