Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, who leads the DCD, said that the plan focuses on making Abu Dhabi a friendly place for People of Determination. They include them and their families when planning and creating services. Some of the new services include helping with personal care, teaching daily life skills, and offering support so they can live independently.
Dr. Layla Abdulaziz Al Hyas, another leader in the DCD, said teamwork between many offices has helped make these services better. Rules have been created to keep People of Determination safe from harm and to ensure they are included in society. Training has been given to workers in 46 government offices so they know how to support People of Determination better. They also made services easier to use by working with other groups.
The DCD is helping with therapy, learning, and social care. A special program was started to help them live on their own, with home care and supported living. A new award was also created to honor organizations that make life better for People of Determination, focusing on jobs, access to places, and inclusivity. Parks, buildings, and public transport were upgraded to make them easier for everyone to use. Some beaches now have special lifts, and there are more accessible taxis and buses.
The Department of Municipalities and Transport changed rules to make buildings and public areas more accessible. At Abu Dhabi Airports, they added parking spaces, quiet spaces, and easy-to-use wheelchairs. They also started a sunflower lanyard program to help people with hidden disabilities. The Abu Dhabi Sports Council launched sports programs, and the Department of Culture and Tourism made sure tourist spots are easy to access. Libraries now offer special services, and workers in the tourism sector were trained to help People of Determination.
The Abu Dhabi Housing Authority made changes to housing rules to meet the needs of People of Determination. They worked with builders to make sure homes are accessible. They also taught staff how to provide better service and ran awareness campaigns about housing services.
The Department of Education and Knowledge introduced a plan to include children with special needs in schools. More than 1,300 students received help like speech and occupational therapy in schools. Some students from special schools joined regular schools to create a more inclusive environment.
These changes show how Abu Dhabi is working hard to include People of Determination in every part of life, making it a model for the world.
