A big fire broke out at a hospital in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday night. The fire started in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at the Maharani Laxmibai Medical College. This part of the hospital was taking care of babies who were very sick. Sadly, ten children died in the fire, and more may have been hurt, according to officials.
The fire might have started because of a short circuit. The staff at the hospital quickly worked to save the babies. They broke the windows of the NICU and rescued many children from the smoke. Firefighters reached the hospital soon and helped to put out the fire. In total, 37 children were safely rescued from the ward.
At the time of the fire, 54 children were in the NICU. 44 of them were saved, but ten children couldn’t make it. Seven of the victims have already been named by officials. The hospital was filled with smoke, and some medical equipment was burnt and damaged by the fire.

People who were outside the hospital could see how bad the situation was. Family members were crying and upset, waiting for news about their loved ones. A mother said, "My baby has burnt to death," as she stood outside the hospital. Many others were also in shock and deep sorrow.
The district magistrate, Avinash Kumar, said a group of people would investigate what caused the fire. He said that most of the children were saved, but it was still heartbreaking to lose ten children.
Uttar Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister, Brajesh Pathak, also confirmed the loss of ten lives. He said seven of the ten victims had been identified, and the government is looking into what happened.
Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, said the fire was "extremely sad" and sent his prayers to the families who lost children. He also hoped for a fast recovery for the injured.
This tragic incident has made many people think about safety in hospitals. People are asking how such a disaster could happen in a place that is supposed to protect the sick and helpless. The investigation is still ongoing, and officials are working to find out exactly what caused the fire.
