Elon Musk, the richest person in the world, started a poll on his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), asking if Americans should "liberate" the British from their “tyrannical government.” This is just the latest time Musk has shared his opinion on UK politics. Musk has been involved in a public disagreement with the British government, especially about how they have handled cases of child abuse. He has used polls on X before to make big decisions, like stepping down as CEO of the platform and bringing back Donald Trump’s account.

The poll was started on January 6 and will end on January 7. It has already received nearly two million votes. Some people who took part in the poll suggested that the UK could become a part of the United States. This idea is similar to a suggestion made by Donald Trump, who once said Canada could become the 51st state of the US if Prime Minister Justin Trudeau resigned. Musk said that the idea of the UK joining the US was "not a bad idea."
Other people commented that if Britain became the 52nd state, it would be a very powerful country again. One person reminded everyone that the people in the UK could "liberate themselves through voting," meaning that in a democracy, people can make decisions for themselves.
Musk’s father, Errol Musk, spoke out and asked people to ignore his son’s comments. Errol said people shouldn’t take Elon Musk seriously and suggested they tell him to "get lost."
This poll came after Musk criticized the UK government’s handling of child abuse cases. Musk’s comments have caused a lot of arguments between him and UK officials. He has talked about how thousands of young girls in England were abused by groups of men over many years.
One case that is making headlines now is a situation in Oldham, where calls for a government investigation into child abuse were rejected by UK Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips. Musk didn’t like this decision and spoke out on X about it.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer responded to Musk’s comments, though he didn’t name him directly. Starmer said people who spread lies and false information don’t care about the victims of these crimes.
Musk is bringing attention to the problem of child sexual abuse in towns across England. For many years, men in these towns targeted vulnerable girls from poor families. Some of these girls were living in children’s homes. A report in 2014 found that more than 1,400 children were sexually exploited in Rotherham, a town in northern England, from 1997 to 2013.
Musk’s comments have added to the debate about whether the government is doing enough to protect children and investigate these crimes. As Musk continues to share his views on how the UK handles these serious issues, it’s clear he is not backing down.
