A US federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit accusing global automaker Stellantis of misleading shareholders about its inventory and sales strategy.
The case, filed as a proposed class action, claimed the company overloaded retailers with excessive vehicle inventory — a practice known as “channel stuffing.” According to the lawsuit, this strategy temporarily boosted vehicle sales but later contributed to declining demand.
Shareholders alleged that Stellantis failed to properly disclose this practice and made misleading statements about its pricing power, inventory levels and profit margins. They argued that these statements artificially inflated the company’s share price.
However, Valerie Caproni, a judge in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York in Manhattan, ruled that the shareholders did not provide sufficient evidence to support their claims.
The judge said the plaintiffs failed to show a strong indication that Stellantis intentionally tried to defraud investors. The court also found no convincing circumstantial evidence of deliberate misconduct or reckless behavior by the company.
Stellantis is one of the world’s largest automakers and owns several well-known brands, including Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep and Peugeot.
With the dismissal, the lawsuit against the automaker has been rejected by the court at this stage.
