In a tragic and emotional situation, a 33-year-old woman named Shahzadi from Banda district in Uttar Pradesh is facing the death penalty in Abu Dhabi. She is currently imprisoned in Al Wathba jail after being found guilty of causing the death of a child who was under her care.
Shahzadi, who went to Abu Dhabi in 2021, never imagined her life would take such a terrible turn. It was reported that she might be executed within 24 hours, but the Indian Embassy later clarified that a review petition has been filed, and the case is still being considered.

As a final act of kindness, the Abu Dhabi jail authorities allowed Shahzadi to speak to her family over the phone. During this heartbreaking call, she told her family that it might be their last conversation. She also requested that a case filed against the child’s parents in Banda be withdrawn.
Shahzadi’s journey to Abu Dhabi began with a promise of a better life. A man named Uzair from Agra convinced her to go abroad, assuring her of a good life and proper treatment for her burn scars. Sadly, she was allegedly sold to a couple named Faiz and Nadia, who later took her to Abu Dhabi. Back home, the Banda Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court ordered the police to register a case of human trafficking against Uzair and the couple, who are now said to be living in Dubai.
In Abu Dhabi, Shahzadi was tasked with looking after the couple's four-month-old child. Unfortunately, the child died suddenly. The parents blamed Shahzadi for the child’s death, leading to her arrest. Both Shahzadi and her family have repeatedly said that the child died due to medical negligence, not because of her actions. Despite their claims, the court held her responsible and sentenced her to death.
Shahzadi’s life has always been difficult. As a child, she suffered burn injuries while working in the kitchen. Later, in 2020, she met Uzair through social media. Hoping for a better future and treatment for her facial scars, she trusted him and agreed to go to Abu Dhabi. However, she never found the life she was promised. Instead, she was trapped in a series of unfortunate events that led to her current situation.
On February 16, her family received a devastating call from Shahzadi. She shared that she was being held in isolation and had been informed about her impending execution. When asked about her last wish, she said she wanted to talk to her family one last time.
After this call, her parents were shattered. They have since appealed to the Indian government and the President, pleading for help to save their daughter. They believe she is innocent and was wrongly blamed for the child’s death.
The case has drawn attention to the harsh realities some workers face abroad and the need for proper investigations before making life-altering decisions. Shahzadi’s family remains hopeful that justice will be served and that she will be given a chance to live.
