UAE Team Emirates-XRG delivered an impressive performance across the European early-season cycling calendar, securing podium finishes in both Belgium and France.
Vermeersch Third at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad
In Belgium, Florian Vermeersch powered to a strong third-place finish at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. The 207.2 km race, known as the traditional curtain-raiser to the Northern Classics, featured tough cobbled sectors and sharp climbs under challenging weather conditions.
Vermeersch rode aggressively throughout the race. He positioned himself well during the decisive moments and responded quickly to key attacks that broke up the peloton. After strong teamwork and support from his UAE teammates, he made a decisive move on the Molenberg climb. Only Mathieu van der Poel of Alpecin-Deceuninck was able to immediately follow him.
In the final sprint, Vermeersch crossed the finish line in third place, just behind Van der Poel and Tim van Dijke of Team Visma | Lease a Bike. The result marked a prestigious podium finish in one of cycling’s most historic one-day classics.
Jan Christen Takes Second at Faun-Ardèche Classic
At the same time in France, Jan Christen delivered a powerful ride at the Faun-Ardèche Classic, a challenging 187.6 km race known for its punchy climbs and aggressive racing style.
The young Swiss rider stayed active throughout the race and was part of the main action. In the closing stages, Christen found himself among strong competitors including Matteo Jorgenson and Lenny Martinez.
Christen eventually secured second place, finishing 48 seconds behind race winner Paul Seixas of Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team.
Strong Start to the Season
With podium finishes in two major European races on the same day, UAE Team Emirates-XRG has made a strong start to the cycling season. The results highlight the team’s depth, teamwork, and strong form ahead of the upcoming Northern Classics.
