The UAE Federal Supreme Court has agreed to send Mehdi Charafa, a French citizen, to France. This decision follows a request from the French government to the UAE, asking for his extradition. Charafa is accused of drug trafficking and money laundering.

The court’s decision came after all legal steps were completed by the accused, and it follows an extradition agreement made between the UAE and France in 2007.

Earlier, the Abu Dhabi Federal Appeal Court had also approved his extradition. However, Charafa appealed this decision, which was then reviewed by the Federal Supreme Court. On January 14th, 2025, the Supreme Court rejected the appeal and confirmed the extradition.

This process shows the UAE’s commitment to working closely with international partners to ensure justice is served. The extradition agreement with France is part of a larger effort, as the UAE has signed more than 45 similar agreements with other countries in recent years.

These agreements highlight the UAE’s strong desire to work together on legal matters, following global standards. The goal is to strengthen efforts to fight international crime and ensure that justice is served worldwide.
