UAE Food Bank Assists Over 18 Million in 2023!

Post by: Dr. Amrinder Pal Singh

In 2023, the UAE Food Bank, a part of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, made a positive impact on over 18.6 million lives globally. Through food distribution, waste reduction initiatives, and 105 awareness programs, the Food Bank received support from 800 donors, including local and international charities.

The year also saw the organization of 105 awareness programs, involving nearly 9,843 participants and 1,800 volunteers. The annual results revealed the receipt of around AED 14.7 million in funds and a significant environmental impact, diverting 6,000 tonnes of food from landfills. Aligned with its goal of achieving a 30% reduction in food waste by 2027, these efforts contributed to curbing environmental pollution and emissions associated with food waste.

Dawoud Al Hajri, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the UAE Food Bank, emphasized that the 2023 results reflect the guidance and oversight of Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees.

The Bank’s mission, aligned with a long-term plan, is to efficiently manage surplus food, reduce waste, and provide high-quality food to beneficiaries worldwide, ensuring sustainability. Positioned as a globally recognized food bank, the UAE Food Bank operates under a robust and sustainable framework, supporting the UAE’s goal to lead the Global Food Security Index by 2051, as outlined in the National Food Security Strategy 2051
