His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Khorfakkan (UFK), has expressed his deep appreciation for the growing collaboration between universities in Sharjah and the prestigious University of Exeter in the United Kingdom. This partnership, he said, significantly enhances the academic and research landscape in Sharjah, helping students achieve outstanding scientific results.
During the signing ceremony for a cooperation agreement between UFK and the University of Exeter, His Highness signed the agreement alongside Dr. Lisa Roberts, President of the University of Exeter. The agreement aims to enable UFK students enrolled in the Marine Sciences and Aquatic Life program to complete their senior year at the University of Exeter, ultimately earning degrees from both universities.

His Highness emphasized the comprehensive scope of the agreement, which includes not just student exchange but also joint research efforts and academic cooperation. Faculty members from the University of Exeter will visit the University of Khorfakkan, as well as the upcoming Khorfakkan Centre for Marine Sciences and Aquatic Life, where their expertise will support research activities, helping to elevate UFK to international scientific standards.
His Highness thanked the University of Exeter for their long-standing collaboration with Sharjah, praising their commitment to advancing knowledge and education for the benefit of humanity. He highlighted the importance of their role in developing academic institutions in Sharjah and fostering strong international partnerships.
Dr. Lisa Roberts, President of the University of Exeter, expressed her gratitude to His Highness for his continued support of educational initiatives in Sharjah. She commended his efforts in nurturing the next generation of students and enhancing higher education in the region. She also acknowledged Exeter's long history of academic partnerships with Sharjah, which have been instrumental in advancing various scientific fields and supporting student development.
The agreement also includes plans for faculty and student exchanges, joint research projects, and specialized studies that will benefit students and contribute to the development of the region. The student exchange programs between UFK and the University of Exeter will provide participants with a rich scientific experience, broadening their academic and professional horizons.
As part of the agreement, UFK students specializing in marine sciences and aquatic life will have the opportunity to spend their fourth year at the University of Exeter, provided they meet admission criteria. Graduates of UFK’s undergraduate programs will also have the chance to pursue master’s degrees at Exeter, further enhancing their education.
Following the signing ceremony, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, accompanied by officials from UFK, Exeter University, and the Board of Trustees, visited the site of the Khorfakkan Centre for Marine Sciences and Aquatic Life. The delegation reviewed the project's progress, with His Highness inspecting the key facilities that will be available to researchers and students at the center.
The Khorfakkan Centre for Marine Sciences and Aquatic Life is designed to be a state-of-the-art research facility located along the Khorfakkan coast. It will feature advanced laboratories equipped with cutting-edge technologies, including genetics, marine anatomy, microbiology, environmental chemistry, and remote sensing.
The center's mission is to lead in the fields of marine sciences, environmental engineering, and marine conservation. It is committed to building partnerships with global academic institutions and stakeholders, promoting sustainability and conservation efforts in marine ecosystems.
This initiative reflects Sharjah's commitment to sustainable development, combining visionary leadership with concrete steps to protect the environment.
