Pedro Sanchez Perez-Castejon arrived in New Delhi to attend the India AI Impact Summit 2026. He was warmly received by Minister of State for Skills Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Singh.
The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal welcomed President Sanchez in a post on X, highlighting that his visit will boost the ongoing celebrations of the India-Spain Dual Year of Culture, Tourism and AI.
India AI Impact Summit 2026
The India AI Impact Summit 2026 is being held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The summit started on February 16 and will continue until February 20, 2026.
This is the first global AI summit to be hosted in the Global South. The event has brought together policymakers, AI industry leaders, academicians, technology innovators, and civil society representatives from around the world to discuss the future of artificial intelligence.
More than 110 countries and 30 international organizations are participating in the summit. Around 20 Heads of State or Government and nearly 45 ministers are attending the event.
Focus on ‘3 Sutras’ – People, Planet, Progress
The summit is guided by three main pillars, called the “3 Sutras”:
People – Promoting human-centric AI that protects rights and ensures equal benefits for all.
Planet – Encouraging environmentally sustainable development of AI technologies.
Progress – Supporting inclusive economic and technological growth through AI.
The summit aligns with India’s national vision of “Sarvajana Hitaya, Sarvajana Sukhaya” (welfare for all, happiness for all) and the global principle of AI for Humanity.
Strong India-Spain Relations
India and Spain have shared cordial diplomatic relations since 1956. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Spain in May 2017 for an official bilateral visit.
The leaders of both countries have also met during G20 Summits in 2018 and 2021 and spoke over the phone in February 2023, expressing confidence in strengthening ties.
India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Spain’s Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in September 2022 and September 2024. Albares also visited India in June 2022 and attended the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and G20 Summit in 2023.
Additionally, Spain’s Third Vice President and Minister for Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, visited India in February 2024.
President Sanchez’s visit for the AI Impact Summit 2026 is expected to further strengthen cooperation between India and Spain, especially in artificial intelligence, innovation, culture, and tourism.
