Smart vehicle system at Ajman Police impounds 1,565 vehicles in 2023

The Traffic and Patrols Department of Ajman Police seized 1,565 vehicles during 2023 utilizing the smart vehicle "house arrest" system. According to Lt. Col. Rashid Humaid bin Hindi, Deputy Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department, this system has witnessed an increase in demand due to its efficiency and ease of use.

Since its inception, the smart vehicle impoundment system has garnered interest from the public who prefer impounding their violating vehicles in private parking lots rather than in the traditional impoundment yards. This preference allows vehicle owners to maintain care of their vehicles during the detention period and shield them from adverse weather conditions. Notably, vehicle owners are permitted to operate and move their impounded vehicles within a radius of thirty meters from the place of detention.

Lt. Col. bin Hindi further explained that the service is not limited to Ajman and can be availed across the country for a nominal fee. The initial cost for the service is Dh500 for the first month, with an additional fee of Dh100 for each subsequent month.

To request the service, vehicle owners can visit the Traffic and Licensing Services Center and submit their request. Upon approval, a satellite-connected kit is installed in the impounded vehicle to prevent it from leaving its designated area. If the vehicle is moved beyond the permissible radius of thirty meters, it incurs financial penalties and an extended impoundment period.

This system ensures greater convenience for the public, allowing them to impound their vehicles in their private spaces rather than designated police yards. It also addresses the issue of limited space in traditional impoundment yards and provides added protection to impounded vehicles from adverse weather conditions.

The electronic monitoring system integrated into the impounded vehicles allows the central operations room to track any unauthorized movement before the end of the impoundment period. Requests for impounding vehicles in private spaces can be made through the traffic and licensing department, and any unauthorized movement of the vehicle results in additional fines and an extended impoundment period.

Overall, the smart vehicle impoundment system offers a practical and efficient solution for vehicle impoundment while ensuring the safety and protection of impounded vehicles.
