His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, officially launched the institutional identity of the Sharjah Space and Astronomy Hub during a ceremony held at its headquarters in University City.

The event commenced with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by a documentary presentation highlighting the hub’s establishment, objectives, key achievements, and its growing scientific and community role. The film also outlined the hub’s ambitious future roadmap and strategic projects aimed at strengthening its leadership in space science.

Official launch and long-term vision

Marking the official unveiling, His Highness activated the launch through a digital tablet, symbolising the beginning of a new phase for the hub. A detailed presentation followed, showcasing its strategic vision to become a leading regional centre in space science, discovery, and interactive learning by 2031.

The hub is built on three core pillars—education, scientific research, and scientific tourism. It is supported by advanced laboratories and modern facilities designed to promote space sciences, simplify complex concepts, and engage diverse segments of society.

Leadership perspective and vision

Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi, Director of the Sharjah Space and Astronomy Hub, described the launch as a significant milestone reflecting Sharjah’s continuous progress in science and knowledge sectors.

He emphasised that the hub aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, to strengthen education and scientific research in astronomy, space science, and advanced technologies, while also fostering greater public awareness of scientific innovation.

Achievements and future ambitions

Since its inception, the hub has evolved into a comprehensive scientific platform integrating academic learning, research, and community engagement. Through partnerships with the University of Sharjah, it has supported specialised programmes, research initiatives, and educational outreach activities.

The facility has attracted thousands of students and visitors annually through its planetarium, exhibitions, and learning programmes, contributing to the development of future talent in science and technology.

Looking ahead, the hub aims to expand its global collaborations and launch advanced space projects that enhance scientific and engineering capabilities. Officials reaffirm that investing in youth and innovation remains central to its mission, positioning Sharjah as a key regional and international hub for science and knowledge dissemination.
