The third session of the 15th Ramadan Majlis, organised by the Sharjah Press Club (SPC) under the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), focused on spinal health and the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle. The event was held at Aljada in Sharjah.
The session discussed common spinal deformities among children and teenagers, their causes, early warning signs, and treatment options. Experts highlighted the role of health awareness in improving overall quality of life.
The event was attended by senior officials, including His Excellency Tariq Saeed Allay, Director General of SGMB; Her Excellency Alia Al Suwaidi, Director of SGMB; and His Excellency Salem Ali Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Sharjah City Municipal Council. Government officials, media representatives, and members of the public also participated.
The session was moderated by media professional Maryam Allay from the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority (SBA). Key speakers included Professor Dr. Hany Abdel Gawwad, Consultant Spine Surgeon, and Dr. Adil Sajwani, Family Medicine Consultant Physician.
Dr. Abdel Gawwad stressed the need for greater community awareness about spinal deformities. He explained that these conditions are not always caused by lifestyle habits. In many cases, they develop during growth and may result from genetic or unknown factors. He said early detection plays a crucial role in successful treatment and faster recovery.
He also highlighted important signs that families should watch for, such as uneven waistlines, uneven shoulder height, and unusual back protrusions. He added that advanced medical skills in diagnosis and treatment cannot be fully replaced by artificial intelligence.
Dr. Sajwani spoke about the importance of building healthy habits from an early age. He encouraged regular physical activity and a balanced diet, calling them long-term investments in health that help prevent age-related diseases. He emphasised the role of families in promoting a culture of wellness at home.
Addressing mental health, Dr. Sajwani noted a rise in anxiety and depression cases after the COVID-19 pandemic. He urged individuals to seek proper diagnosis and consult qualified medical professionals.
He also discussed modern lifestyle-related health problems, including neck strain due to excessive device use and nerve compression in the hands.
The session included interactive activities, a question-and-answer segment, and competitions. Prizes were sponsored by the Sharjah Cooperative Society.
The 15th Ramadan Majlis sessions conclude on Thursday at Aljada after Taraweeh prayers.
