He welcomed all guests warmly and talked about Oman’s focus on growing its culture and arts. He also praised the Arab Theatre Institute for 15 years of supporting Arab theatre and making it a way to share culture and feelings.
He congratulated His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik on completing five years as Sultan and thanked His Highness Sayyid Theyazin for his support of the festival. He also thanked the Arab Theatre Institute and all the people taking part, wishing them a good and learning-filled experience.
A short film was shown at the event to share the story of the festival. After that, Ismail Abdullah, the Secretary-General of the Arab Theatre Institute, spoke about the journey of the festival. He said it started in 2009 and has been held in many cities like Cairo, Tunis, Beirut, Amman, and Baghdad. He said the festival always shows the rich talents in Arab theatre and how much the Arab world has to offer.
Abdullah shared exciting plans for this year’s festival. A big event, Arab Theatre Day, will be celebrated with a message from Palestinian artist and activist Fathi Abdul Rahman. Five Omani groups that worked hard to grow Omani theatre will be honored. There will also be awards for winners of the Arab Scientific Theatre Research Competition.
The festival will include the signing of more than 30 books, a special meeting about Omani theatre and new technology, and four workshops to teach new skills to Omani theatre artists. With performances, talks, and learning sessions, the 15th Arab Theatre Festival is a place to share ideas, grow talent, and celebrate Arab theatre art.
