The Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, held a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday to discuss the latest political and security developments in the Middle East.
The leaders spoke about the situation in Gaza and the broader Palestinian issue. Both sides reviewed the outcomes of the recent High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine, which Saudi Arabia and France co-chaired earlier this month. The main focus of that international gathering was the urgent need to end the ongoing war in Gaza and to find a practical path toward peace.
Review of Peace Conference
During their conversation, the two leaders carefully assessed what had been achieved in the recent peace conference. That meeting, attended by senior representatives from many nations, strongly supported the long-standing demand for a two-state solution—an independent Palestinian state living peacefully alongside Israel.
One of the most important results of the conference was the New York Declaration, a document that was welcomed by an overwhelming majority of countries during a vote at the United Nations General Assembly. This declaration pushed for immediate steps to stop the bloodshed and begin negotiations that could lead to lasting peace in the region.
Plans for Next Summit
Prince Mohammed and President Macron also discussed the upcoming continuation of the conference at the summit level, scheduled for September 22. Leaders and representatives from across the world are expected to attend, and the hope is that this summit will provide stronger commitments and clear actions that can turn dialogue into results.
Saudi Arabia and France see themselves as playing a vital role in guiding international efforts, and both countries want to make sure that the summit is not just a meeting of words but a milestone toward actual progress. The goal is clear: stop the fighting in Gaza, protect innocent lives, and build a solid foundation for an independent Palestinian state.
Shared Vision
The phone call between the Saudi Crown Prince and the French President highlighted the shared vision of the two countries. Both Riyadh and Paris believe that without a political solution, peace in the region will remain out of reach. They also underlined the importance of engaging global powers, neighboring countries, and international institutions to make sure the initiative does not lose momentum.
The Crown Prince stressed that Saudi Arabia is committed to supporting peace efforts and will continue to push for solutions that reflect fairness, dignity, and security for Palestinians. President Macron, in return, emphasized France’s determination to stand with Saudi Arabia in working toward stability in the Middle East.
Wider Regional Impact
The ongoing conflict in Gaza has not only caused loss of life and destruction but has also shaken regional stability. Countries in the Middle East, along with international allies, fear that without a concrete peace plan, violence may spread and deepen existing divisions.
This is why the September 22 summit is considered a crucial moment. It will test whether the international community can agree on practical steps, from humanitarian aid to political negotiations. Both leaders agreed that the world cannot afford another cycle of war and must take bold actions now.
