Top jockey William Buick is looking forward to a big day of racing this Saturday, especially with his ride on Rattle N Roll in the famous Dubai World Cup. On Thursday morning, Buick rode the horse during training at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai and was very pleased with how it went.
Speaking after the workout, Buick said, “He felt good. Kenny (the trainer) wanted me to try him out, and Danny, who rides him every morning, said he’s been full of energy lately. He was strong under me today, but he felt great. He’s a really good horse to ride and I’m excited for the race.”
Rattle N Roll made a strong impression last month by finishing fourth in the Saudi Cup. Buick believes the horse can do even better in the Dubai World Cup, especially with a longer distance and a better starting position. The race favorites include Forever Young, who won the Saudi Cup, and Ushba Tesoro, last year’s Dubai World Cup champion.
“He ran a solid race in Saudi,” Buick said. “He was very close to finishing third. I think the extra distance in this race will help him. He’s starting from gate number two, which should allow us to stay close to the front. That will really help his chances.”

Buick explained that Rattle N Roll usually finishes races strongly from behind, but this time he’s hoping to stay a bit closer to the leaders during the race. “He’s a closer, that’s just his style, but if I can get him to stay a bit nearer to the pack, that would be perfect. What matters most is that he seems happy and in great form. I felt really positive riding him today.”
The Dubai World Cup is one of the biggest horse races in the world. Buick has already won it once in 2015 and says it’s always special to be part of such a big event.
“It’s an amazing race,” he said. “Winning it once was an honor. Every year you hope to get a good horse to ride in it, and I think that’s what I have this time.”
