The National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) has teamed up with six universities across the UAE to start a program called Universal Design for Inclusion. This program is meant to teach students about how to make the world more inclusive for everyone, especially people with disabilities.

The program helps students understand the challenges people with disabilities face in daily life, like problems with movement, communication, and thinking. By learning about these issues, students will create solutions that help make life easier for everyone.

This program is part of NMSS’s efforts to raise awareness about multiple sclerosis (MS) and to teach students how to design things that are accessible to everyone. The goal is to make sure that all people, regardless of their abilities, can take part in society equally.

The program is being run in cooperation with top universities in the UAE. It gives students the chance to learn about inclusive design through different activities. These include awareness sessions, expert-led workshops, and discussions with people who live with disabilities. Students will learn first-hand about the challenges people with disabilities face and how they can design better solutions to help.

Ahmed Taleb Al Shamsi, CEO of Emirates Foundation and Vice Chair of NMSS, said: “This program is all about helping students make a real difference. We are giving them the skills to not only understand the challenges people face but to create practical solutions that can help make life better.”

He also thanked the universities and teachers for including this program in their courses, saying it will help students think about accessibility from the start of their careers.

The program is being carried out in 11 campuses across the UAE. The universities involved include Abu Dhabi University, University of Sharjah, Khalifa University, Al Ain University, Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation (DIDI), and six campuses of the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT).

Students start with workshops where they learn what it’s like to live with a disability. These activities help them understand the challenges people face in their everyday lives. After these workshops, students get to learn from experts in the field and hear real stories about how to design solutions that work for people with disabilities.

At the end of the program, students will present their final projects to a group of experts. These experts will choose the best designs based on how practical and helpful they are. The top three teams will get the chance to work with the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Center (Sheraa). Sheraa will help them improve their ideas and turn them into real solutions with the help of mentors.

Sara Belhaif Al Nuaimi, CEO of Sheraa, said: “We are excited to support these students and help them turn their ideas into reality. This program shows us that inclusivity is important for all communities. It’s a great chance to help students create solutions that make life better for everyone.”

The students will also get pitch training to help them present their ideas in front of experts at the final event, which will take place in September.

The program is part of the UAE’s national push for greater inclusion. By teaching students about universal design early on, NMSS is helping build a future where people of all abilities work together to create a world that’s accessible for everyone.

This program is a step toward a more inclusive society where everyone is supported and included in building a better future.
