California – Elon Musk's brain technology company, Neuralink, has announced a promising development in its ongoing trials. The startup reported that its advanced implant, which aims to enable paralyzed individuals to control digital devices purely through thought, has shown significant success in its second patient.
Neuralink's latest update reveals that the patient, known as Alex, has not encountered the "thread retraction" problems experienced by Noland Arbaugh, the first patient who received the implant in January. Arbaugh's implant faced issues where the tiny wires used in the device retracted after surgery, leading to a noticeable reduction in the number of electrodes capable of measuring brain signals. Although the threads have since stabilized for Arbaugh, this issue prompted Neuralink to take action.
The company acknowledged that they were aware of these complications from their animal trials. To address the problem and improve outcomes, Neuralink implemented several new strategies for the second patient. These included reducing the movement of the brain during the surgical procedure and minimizing the gap between the implant and the brain's surface.

The enhancements appear to be effective, as Neuralink reported that Alex has been able to use the device without encountering the previous issues. The second patient has already begun using the implant to play video games, explore 3D object design, and perform other tasks, marking a significant step forward for the technology.
