Top tennis players want fair prize money at the four big Grand Slam tournaments. They sent a letter to the people who run the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. The players are asking for prize money to be shared better so that all players, not just the top ones, can earn enough.

American tennis player Emma Navarro said she signed the letter after talking with other players. She believes all players should be treated fairly.
"In the past, prize money was not always shared in a fair way. I think it is good for players to come together and ask for fair treatment," she said.
The US Tennis Association (USTA), which organizes the US Open, said it got the letter and is ready to talk to players. The USTA also said it has been paying men and women the same prize money for over 50 years. In 2024, the US Open gave out the biggest prize money in tennis history.
The other three Grand Slam events have not yet replied to the letter.
This year, Grand Slam events gave a record $254 million in prize money. That is $23 million more than last year. The Australian Open already raised its prize money by over 11% in 2024. At that event, winners got nearly $2.2 million, while players who lost in the first round still earned around $83,000.
Chinese tennis player Zheng Qinwen, ranked number eight in the world, said more prize money from Grand Slams would help all players. "This is good for everyone, not just top players. Many work hard all year and need this money to keep playing," she said.
She also compared tennis to the NBA, where basketball players get 50% of the league’s total money. "In basketball, they share the money 50-50. Tennis players work very hard too, so we should also get a fair share," Zheng said.
