Passengers traveling to Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) Terminal 2 now have a much simpler and faster way to reach the terminal from the metro. Earlier, travelers often had to deal with the unpredictability of road traffic, which made the last leg of the journey from the metro to the airport longer and stressful. However, with the opening of a new foot overbridge, the walk from the metro to Terminal 2 has been significantly reduced, making it more convenient and safer for flyers.
Shorter Walk, Faster Access
The newly constructed foot overbridge is 100 meters long and directly connects the CSMIA - T2 Metro Station on Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line, to Terminal 2 of the airport. Previously, travelers had to cover a distance of 450 meters to reach the terminal, often navigating through traffic-heavy roads. With the new bridge in place, this distance has been reduced to just 118 meters. This saves precious time and ensures that passengers can reach their check-in counters quickly and without unnecessary stress.

Designed for Comfort and Convenience
The foot overbridge has been designed keeping the needs of airport travelers in mind. It provides ample space for passengers with bulky luggage to move comfortably. The bridge connects Lift Entry/Exit A1 of the metro station straight to the terminal building, allowing travelers to completely avoid stepping into traffic zones. This design makes the route safer, faster, and much more convenient for daily commuters and occasional flyers alike.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) highlighted the importance of this new facility, stating, “Good news for flyers! No more rushing through traffic before your flight! Now, from #CSMIA-T2 Metro Station - Airport Terminal-2 in just a few steps. The newly built 100-meter Foot Over Bridge, constructed by #MMRDA, connects Lift Entry/Exit A1 at ground level straight to the terminal. Fast, easy and convenient for all commuters!”
Metro 3 Aqua Line: Connecting the City Seamlessly
The foot overbridge is part of the larger Metro 3 Aqua Line project, which is still under construction. Metro 3 is Mumbai’s first fully underground metro corridor, spanning 33.5 kilometers from Cuffe Parade in Colaba to Aarey in the northern part of the city. The line will include 27 stations, with one at grade level, and is designed to provide smooth, quick, and convenient travel across the city.
Once fully operational, Metro 3 is expected to greatly improve airport connectivity for residents and visitors. Travelers will have a seamless route from various parts of Mumbai to one of India’s busiest airports, without worrying about traffic congestion on city roads. The integration of the metro with the airport through the foot overbridge is an important step toward making air travel simpler and less stressful.
Why This Matters for Flyers
For anyone traveling through Mumbai Airport, reaching the terminal on time can sometimes be challenging. Traffic delays, crowded roads, and long walks from the nearest metro station have often caused unnecessary stress for passengers. The new foot overbridge addresses these concerns by providing a direct, safe, and quick route to Terminal 2.
Passengers no longer need to wait for taxis, autos, or other vehicles to reach the terminal from the metro station. The bridge is wide enough to handle large crowds, making it easier for families, senior citizens, and travelers with heavy luggage to navigate the airport entrance comfortably.
About Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is one of the leading airports in India and the world. Spread across 1,900 acres, it is recognized as the busiest single-runway airport in the world and the second busiest in India. The airport provides direct flight connections to 54 international and 67 domestic destinations, making it one of the most well-connected airports in the country.
Terminal 2, in particular, handles a large volume of international and domestic passengers. With increasing passenger traffic every year, improvements in accessibility are crucial. The new foot overbridge is a welcome addition, ensuring that travelers experience less hassle while moving from public transport to the airport terminals.
Future Benefits of Metro-Airport Integration
The integration of Metro 3 Aqua Line with Mumbai Airport will bring multiple long-term benefits:
Reduced Travel Time: Passengers will be able to reach Terminal 2 much faster than before.
Safety: By avoiding road traffic, travelers can enjoy a safer and more secure route to the airport.
Convenience: The bridge is designed for easy movement of passengers with luggage, including strollers and trolleys.
Stress-Free Travel: Eliminating the uncertainty of road traffic makes the journey to the airport more relaxed and comfortable.
As Metro 3 becomes fully operational, this connectivity will also reduce congestion on city roads near the airport. Commuters can now rely on the metro for timely and predictable airport transfers.
The new 100-meter foot overbridge connecting CSMIA-T2 Metro Station to Terminal 2 is a significant step toward improving passenger experience at Mumbai Airport. With a reduced walking distance, ample space for luggage, and a traffic-free route, this bridge ensures that passengers reach their terminals quickly and comfortably.
This development highlights the continuous efforts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority to enhance infrastructure and make air travel easier for everyone. As Metro 3 Aqua Line becomes fully functional, travelers can look forward to faster, safer, and more convenient access to one of India’s busiest airports, making Mumbai Airport a model for airport connectivity in the country.
