Microsoft is planning to make its Copilot digital assistant smarter and more personal. In the coming months, Copilot will be able to remember your likes and preferences — like your favorite food, movies, or places you’ve visited — and use that information to help you better in future conversations.
This new feature is part of Microsoft’s goal to make Copilot more useful for everyday users. The company wants Copilot to understand your life and be there for you in the right way, at the right time. Mustafa Suleyman, who leads Microsoft’s AI work for consumers, shared this update in a blog post on Friday.
Microsoft is mainly known for selling its products to businesses, but now it’s also trying to build strong AI tools for regular people. CEO Satya Nadella brought in Mustafa Suleyman, who helped start Google’s DeepMind, to lead this effort.

Suleyman believes that for AI assistants to be truly helpful, they need to adjust to each person’s lifestyle, choices, and needs—not just have short, one-time conversations.
Other tech companies are also adding similar features to their AI tools. Google said its Gemini assistant will soon be able to use your search history to understand you better. OpenAI allows users to tell ChatGPT about their interests. Amazon’s Alexa+ can now look at what you buy or watch on Amazon to give better answers.
Microsoft made it clear that users will be in control of what Copilot remembers. You’ll be able to pick what kind of personal information it can use—or turn off personalization completely if you want.
The company shared this big news on Friday during a special event celebrating Microsoft’s 50th anniversary at their headquarters in Redmond, Washington.
