British tennis star Jack Draper delivered one of the biggest wins of his career after defeating world-class opponent Novak Djokovic in a thrilling deciding-set tie-break at the Indian Wells Open.
The defending champion battled for two hours and 35 minutes to secure the victory. Draper lost the opening set 6–4 but bounced back strongly in the second set. He broke Djokovic early and managed to save several break points while maintaining aggressive baseline play to level the match.
In the deciding set, Djokovic, the 38-year-old Serbian star, showed his experience by winning a remarkable 26-shot rally at 30-all in the opening game. However, Draper stayed focused and took control of the set, moving ahead 3–1 and later extending his lead to 5–3.
Djokovic fought back strongly and managed to level the score at 5–5. He also broke Draper when the British player was serving for the match, increasing the tension in the contest.
Despite the setback, the 24-year-old Draper kept his composure. He forced the match into a tie-break and dominated it to seal a memorable victory against one of the greatest players in tennis.
After the match, Draper admitted that he is still searching for his best form but was proud of his determination.
“I still don't feel like I'm playing anywhere near the way I want to play,” Draper said in his on-court interview. “I won this match through determination, trying to problem-solve and keep a great attitude.”
He added that beating top players helps build confidence, especially after not playing regularly on the tour.
Draper will next face Russia’s 11th seed Daniil Medvedev in the next round. Medvedev advanced after defeating American player Alex Michelsen 6–2, 6–4 in just one hour and 27 minutes, continuing his strong form following his victory at the Dubai Tennis Championships last month.
