Officials described the scene as dramatic, with the bridge collapsing in the center and now partially submerged in the river, as reported by The Mirror.

Eric Tigges of Clay County emergency management reported that 13 rivers in the area are flooded, with water levels reaching critical points. National Guard troops are assisting with water rescues and the transportation of essential medications lost due to flooding.
Efforts are underway around the clock to assess the damage and determine the long-term impact on rail services. The collapsed bridge has disrupted local transit and critical railroad services that transported grain and crushed rock between North Sioux City and Sioux Falls.
Flood warnings and alerts are in effect for rivers across several states including Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Heavy rainfall, up to eight times the average, has exacerbated flooding in parts of northern Nebraska, southeastern South Dakota, southern Minnesota, and northwest Iowa, with additional heavy rain expected.
In South Dakota, Governor Kristi Noem declared a state of emergency due to severe flooding in the southeastern region, resulting in the closure of several highways.
The aftermath of the bridge collapse underscores the ongoing challenges posed by severe weather conditions in the region, with communities and authorities mobilizing resources to manage the crisis and support affected residents.
