Security experts revealed a significant lapse in intelligence cooperation between India and Israel, shedding light on a crucial piece of information lost after the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991. Namit Verma, a seasoned expert in global geopolitics and security affairs, disclosed during a discussion hosted by the Usanas Foundation that Israel had shared transcripts regarding a potential threat to Gandhi's life. However, the transcripts went missing amidst political transitions following Gandhi's assassination.
Verma emphasized the importance of the shared intelligence, highlighting its relevance to Gandhi's security. He lamented the failure to preserve the information, attributing it to shifting political dynamics at the time. Verma noted that India played a critical role as a mediator between the United States and the Soviet Union before the latter's dissolution, with Gandhi actively involved in diplomatic communication.

The discussion, titled 'Intelligence Cooperation and Security Challenges in the Emerging World Order,' also featured Israeli security experts Joseph Rozen and Kobe Michael. Verma underscored the repercussions of such intelligence lapses, stressing that similar incidents occur during periods of global upheaval or challenges to the existing world order.
According to Verma, the missing transcripts contained crucial details, including payments made by unidentified parties referred to as 'Godman.' Despite efforts to reconstruct the information, including requests for copies from Israel, the transcripts remained elusive. Verma criticized the politicization of intelligence sharing between nations, highlighting the implications of such actions on national security.
The revelation sparked concerns about the efficacy of intelligence collaboration and the need for greater transparency and accountability in safeguarding critical information. Verma's insights underscored the complex interplay between politics, security, and intelligence cooperation in shaping global affairs.
