Kanchan Gupta, Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, has strongly criticized Air India after an 82-year-old woman collapsed and got injured at Delhi's IGI Airport. According to Gupta, the airline failed to provide her with a wheelchair despite her request, leaving her to struggle on her own.
Elderly Woman Left Without Help
The woman, Raj Pasricha, is the widow of a highly decorated Lieutenant General. She had pre-booked a wheelchair for her journey to Bengaluru on March 4, 2025. However, when she arrived at Terminal 3, no wheelchair was available. Left with no choice, she attempted to walk with her family's support. But she was too weak and collapsed near the airline’s premium economy counter, suffering injuries.

Gupta Calls It an 'Everyday Horror'
Gupta took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his outrage. He described the incident as an "Everyday Horror" and questioned whether Air India, now owned by the Tata Group, could properly manage passenger safety.
"Clearly @AirIndia has no ability to run Air India. Everyday horror stories are the new norm at the airline founded by JRD Tata and repurchased from GoI by @TataCompanies. The grim story of an 82-year-old widow of a decorated General is Air India's boastful claim on #WomensDay," he wrote.
Air India Denies Allegations
Air India, however, rejected these claims and issued a statement explaining their side of the story. According to the airline:
The family arrived at the Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRM) desk less than 90 minutes before departure.
Due to high demand, a wheelchair was not available within 15 minutes.
The family chose to walk instead of waiting longer.
When Pasricha collapsed, she received immediate medical attention.
Airline staff assisted her throughout her journey to Bengaluru.
Family Speaks Out
Pasricha's granddaughter, Parul Kanwar, shared a different version of events on social media. She claimed her grandmother waited over an hour for a wheelchair but got no help. She also alleged that her grandmother was left bleeding at the airport and was allowed to board the flight despite her injuries.
The incident has sparked a major debate about Air India’s treatment of elderly and disabled passengers. Many people have criticized the airline for its handling of the situation, while others believe peak-hour delays are unavoidable.
The controversy continues as Gupta and Pasricha's family demand accountability from Air India.
