The Dubai Water Canal's iconic waterfall has received a significant revamp, courtesy of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Over a period of two months, the RTA conducted extensive maintenance work on the Water Canal Bridge's waterfall, focusing primarily on enhancing safety measures and aesthetic appeal.
The maintenance efforts, spanning over 600 working hours, included the dismantling and subsequent reinstallation of the waterfall's exterior aluminium components after refurbishment. Additionally, outdated stainless-steel water pipes were replaced with more sustainable polyethylene pipes, and the waterfall's structure underwent a complete overhaul, with a new stainless-steel framework installed. To facilitate accessibility and ensure on-site safety, a floating platform was also incorporated during the maintenance phase.
This comprehensive refurbishment aligns with RTA's commitment to maintaining its assets and facilities systematically, thereby enhancing sustainability and prolonging their lifespan. The maintenance process for the waterfall follows a structured approach, encompassing daily, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual maintenance phases. Annual maintenance includes crucial tasks such as thermal imaging and ultrasonic testing of lighting and electrical distribution panels.
The illuminated waterfall serves as a testament to RTA's innovative initiatives and contributes to the aesthetic charm of the Dubai Water Canal. Recognized as a prominent tourist attraction and a gathering spot for diverse community segments, the canal features motion sensors that automatically halt the waterfall's flow to accommodate passing boats, further enhancing its allure.
The Dubai Water Canal project stands out as one of RTA's most remarkable endeavors, celebrated for its aesthetic appeal and distinctive features. Spanning from Business Bay to the Arabian Gulf, the canal traverses scenic locales such as Al Safa Park, Jumeirah II, Jumeirah Road, and Jumeirah Beach, offering residents and visitors alike a captivating experience amidst Dubai's urban landscape.
